Familiarize yourself with the following Craigslist phone scams to avoid becoming the next victim. This scam is one of the easiest to pull off and one of the most difficult to prevent. Later, they report it lost or stolen and file an insurance claim.
The insurance company provides them with a new phone and blacklists the phone you bought. The blacklist is a database of phones that have been reported lost or stolen or have been inactivated by carriers due to delinquent payments.
Perhaps the oldest scam in the book, scammers steal phones then sell them before the owner can report them stolen. Though phone theft is on the decline due to software like Find My iPhone and iCloud Activation Lock, thieves can still make a quick buck if they move stolen phones fast. The phone will look and function just fine until you put your SIM card in. The first line of defense is to check the blacklist database before you buy a phone. That means the IMEI will come back clean even though the phone is stolen.
Thieves often sell stolen iPhones with iCloud Activation Lock enabled, but even honest sellers can do so by mistake. The only way to tell is to follow the steps from the startup splash screen until it goes to the Activation Lock screen or requests your Apple ID. Prevent this scam or honest mistake by meeting the seller somewhere that has a WiFi connection so you can attempt to set the phone up.
Some scammers sell carrier-locked phones as unlocked phones. In other cases, a phone could be locked to a carrier or even on the blacklist due to delinquent payments.
Even honest sellers can mistakenly market a phone as unlocked. The best way to prevent this scam? Check the blacklist and meet at the carrier to make sure the phone is carrier-unlocked before you buy it. Unscrupulous sellers will sell broken phones: phones with water damage, poor batteries, cracked covers and other defects. They might attempt to conceal damage with protective cases. However, other clues might suggest water damage. Protect yourself from this scam by thoroughly inspecting the phone in person.
I always check the Face ID or fingerprint scanner before I buy. Refer to our phone buying checklistwhich includes information about how to run phone diagnostics and third-party phone testing apps, for more details on how to inspect and test a phone. More sophisticated scammers will sell fake phones that have the bodies of popular flagships but are loaded with cheap components and software.
Sometimes they come with the box and all the accessories unused. Even local classifieds sites are rife with scammers who will only ship and never meet in person — and never deliver.
The easiest way to avoid this scam? Demand to meet the seller in person. If they refuse, pass on the deal. Click here and get The Ask Leo! The administrator on one of them emailed me that my IP address is on some kind of blacklist. Should I or could I change my IP address? Is there any way to locate that blacklist and get me taken off?
IP address blacklists are normally unreliable and a poor approach to controlling whatever it is people are trying to control. But administrators definitely use them. Become a Patron of Ask Leo! If you can get the source of that blacklist, then maybe you can appeal.
The problem is that most blacklists are exceptionally poorly managed. They actually have different purposes anonymity, in the case of TOR and security in the case of VPNsbut in both cases, you will appear as coming from a completely different IP address. I moderate a fairly large forum and you are right about how most blacklists stink. The only one we use any more is stopforumspam and then we only use it, except in extreme situations. I many cases there is a way to get off of it.
Is it not rather dumb to block someone based on an IP address? I have found download sites which I visited for the first time in my life, only to be told that based on my IP address I had exceeded my quota.
I’ve been blocked because my IP address is on a blacklist. What do I do?
On other sites I have been told that my IP address had already logged in under another account earlier in the day and I cannot access my account, even though I had never logged in to my account earlier.
Other sites, never visited, also simply tell me I have been blacklisted. So, why do they exercise this impractical method of blocking us in this day and age? Surely there must be a more sensible approach for webmasters to follow? I have also had a similar experience with a tech website. But they clearly mention that my ISP provider is allowing a lot of spam to be spewed out. Hence my ISP is blacklisted by them!! Get out of a blacklist IPs is a dream.

After I sent it to another country as a gift but I was told the iPhone was blacklisted. I called Verizon and they told me the iPhone X was reported as stolen.
First of all, I would like to thank Matt for trusting UltraSnow to find a solution to his problem. Of course, I accept that the refurbished iPhone X was working in the beginning so, what went wrong?
I can think of a couple of reasons that a used iPhone X might get blacklisted a few days or even months after you bought it. Now, since you sent this used iPhone X to another country and it is not working there, it means that the device is not only blacklisted but also SIM Locked to Verizon.
But let me tell you in detail what to do in order to avoid something like this to happen again. I hope this article helped you to unlock your Verizon Blacklisted iPhone X.
